Halloween Traditions

The month of October is always an exciting one in our family because besides football, we have our wedding anniversary, Dillon and Sadie's birthdays, and the many fun and thrilling Halloween activities that we try to participate in every year. Jarom and I have always tried to make the holidays so special and fun for the kids so that they will grow up loving and cherishing this wonderful time of year.

A couple of weekends ago, we headed to Idaho Falls for a quick visit so that we could meet our new nephew, Quaid. Jamie was kind enough to let Dillon hold him and he just thought that Quaid was, "So tiny and cute!" We definitely agree.

While we were in IF, the kids were able to pick some raspberries out of Grandpa Johnson's garden. They tasted so yummy!

We also went to a local pumpkin patch to pick our pumpkins for the year. We usually are able to get some really cute pictures while we are there, but this year it was cold and windy and for some reason, a loud siren kept going off nearby which totally upset Sadie.

Grandma Johnson and Easton came with us this year.

A couple of nights ago, the kids helped us carve their pumpkins. Jarom and I agreed that we probably should stick to an easy, typical jack-o-lantern look this year instead of attempting to carve a difficult design that we'd probably screw up. This is how they turned out...

Last weekend, we took the kids to Logan's Annual Pumpkin Walk. This was our first year going and we were definitely impressed. The Pumpkin Walk entails many different displays from movies, tv shows, games, etc. that are mainly made out of pumpkins. There were probably over 50 displays. We loved it! Here are a few of my favorite...

Kung Fu Panda...

Angry Birds...

Candyland (Dillon has hit this phase where he thinks it is funny to make a silly face in every picture and screw it up. I don't find it quite as funny)

Winnie the Pooh

We have also been busy making Halloween crafts. Here are the boys with their jack-o-lanterns.

The kids made halloween pizzas topped with frosting, gummy worms, sprinkles, and candy skulls and bones.

I read the poem, "The Wise Old Owl," to the boys and then they made their own owl out of lunch bags.

We also made Halloween candy necklaces which even Sadie was able to participate in.

Lastly, nothing gets me more into the holiday spirit more than baking does. I HATE to cook, but I LOVE to bake, especially yummy treats and goodies! Jarom and I have been having a lot of fun looking up fall recipes and trying them out. We made craisin oatmeal cookies.

Halloween whoopie pies...

Halloween cake balls...

homemade pumpkin pie...

Halloween sugar cookies...

and finally, orange cinnamon rolls.

We have had so much Halloween fun in the last four weeks, and it is not even Halloween yet. We have enjoyed spending so much time together and look forward to another weekend full of exciting events and activities.
