January 2014

The first couple of weeks of 2014 were quite boring and uneventful around our house due to the craziness of Jarom's work.  He had to work longer hours to meet the demand of the customers.  So, in mid January, we decided that our family needed to get out and do something fun.  So, we went to a Jazz game!  We were able to get a good deal on some lower bowl tickets and we could see the players quite well.  The kids had a great time and we hope that there are many more Jazz games in our future!

Towards the end of January, Dillon was in a tennis tournament here in Logan.  Braylon and Sadie had had horrible cases of croup in the days leading up to the tournament, so we were hoping and praying that Dillon wouldn't get it until after his matches.  Well, we lucked out because he fortunately stayed healthy throughout the tournament.  In fact, he ended up winning the consolation tournament and won a trophy!  We were so proud of him!

Unfortunately, the day after his tournament, he came down with the dreaded croup.  For a week, he  was lethargic, hacking his head off, and running a fever.  After eight days of those symptoms not getting any better, I finally took him into an urgent care facility.  They quickly checked his oxygen levels and they were immediately concerned.  His oxygen was in the mid 80s and they like it to be in the 90s.  They gave him two breathing treatments to see if that would raise his oxygen and then they administered a chest x ray.  The breathing treatments didn't seem to help much and the chest x ray was worrisome, so they immediately sent me to the ER.

After being watched and cared for for a few hours, they gave him two shots of antibiotics to treat his pneumonia and double ear infection and then sent us on our way to care for him at home.

It took about another two weeks for him to fully recover from the pneumonia.   It was definitely a scary and concerning experience, but we are grateful that he is back to his healthy and happy self.
